ACCOMPLISHMENTS (2000-2006)


Global Service Initiatives – Cambodia (2004-2006)

Cambodian Humanitarian Initiative (2005 – present)

Objective: To provide humanitarian assistance to Cambodian children through support of educational and performance arts initiatives.

Partner Organizations:
  o Cambodian Volunteers for Community Development (CVCD)
    - education for extremely poor children
  o Cambodian Master Performers Program (CMMP)
    - cultural revival following Khmer Rouge Genocide
Accomplishments:
  o Raised $6,000 to support one Cambodian Master and his/her class of 50 students for one year
  o Raised $4,200 to support the purchase of 10 computers for the CVCD Non-Formal Education Program
Cambodian Survivor Assistance Initiative (2004)
Objective: To sponsor vocational rehabilitation to Cambodian landmine survivors.
Partner Organizations:
  o Clear Path International
  o Cambodian Volunteers for Community Development
Accomplishments
  o Raised $11,000 to assist the vocational rehabilitation of 100 Cambodian landmine survivors

“Youth Leadership Conference: Eye on Cambodia” (10/26/04)
Symposium on Cambodia and Landmines (Spring 2004)
  o Comprehensive unit on Cambodian history, culture and landmines for Tenafly Middle School

Landmine Removal Initiative (2000-2002)

Objective: To sponsor the removal of landmines in “adopted” Bosnian villages
Partner Organizations (International):
  o Slovenian International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) – oversight
  o Action Against Mines (Bosnian deminers)
  o Stop Mines (Bosnian deminers)
Partner Organizations (National):
  o U.S. Department of State Office of Humanitarian Demining Programs (HDP) – matching grant
  o U.S. Department of State Office of Global Humanitarian Demining Programs (outreach)
Accomplishments
  o Raised $40,000 to demine two Bosnian villages (Podzvizd and Gornja Sopotnica)

Education Initiatives & Conferences – Landmines (2002-2003)

Smith College-U.S. Department of State Landmine Conference (2003)
  o Tenafly middle school students only attending non-collegians
  o Presentations by 3 members of Tenafly Landmine Club
Global Care Unlimited Youth Coalition for Mine Action Conference (2002)
  o Speakers: landmine survivors and advocates representing national and international organizations
  o 700 Tenafly students/150 visiting middle and high school students from 16 schools
