Cambodian Volunteers for Community Development
(CVCD)
CVCD was established
in 1992 to promote the recovery of war-torn communities
through organizing and encouraging community volunteerism
at the grassroots level. CVCD works to develop the human
resources of people from poor “squatter” communities,
enabling them to improve their living conditions. Their
current programs include:
- Non-Formal Education for children
in squatter communities;
- English and Computer Literacy;
- Sewing Skills for squatter communities;
- Environmental Awareness and HIV/Aids
Education.
Global Care Unlimited
visited the home office of CVCD during its trip to Cambodia
this February 2005. Our delegation had the opportunity to
make site visits to squatter communities to the first three
programs listed above. We also had the opportunity to spend
significant time with CVCD director, Sarath Doeur, over
a number of days.
Our Global Care Unlimited
delegation was very impressed with the programs being administered
by CVCD under the leadership of Mr. Doeur. After follow-up
correspondence with Mr. Doeur and post-trip meetings with
the delegation, Global Care Unlimited has set the goals
of:
-
Raising $7,000 for the purchase
of 20 computers in CVCD’s educational
classes. This request was made by Mr. Doeur to provide
an invaluable resource for use in their Non-Formal education
classes with children and their English and Computer
Literacy classes with adults.
-
Raising
$3,000 toward the tuition of 50 Cambodian children
to attend CVCD’s Non-Formal Education classes.
